Updates: Current project updates.

Craig Calamis wrote “Haven't posted an update in while due to being hard at work on The Drifter edit! Originally, my goal was to have a completed first cut in the first week of November. Now that the time is creeping up on 1 month past that date, I'd like to shed some light on the project... Technically, an entire 1st cut is not yet complete, HOWEVER, many of the most important scenes in the movie have been worked over to their 2nd, 3rd, even 4th cuts individually. As an editor, I like to go back and polish certain segments before moving on to new ones. As of today, there is about 95 minutes of the first cut complete, with about 15 (untouched) minutes to go! Again, many scenes are much further along individually compared to the whole cut.

Co-writer Danny Bellini will be visiting the editing room this month where the first full cut will be screened.

Be on the lookout for a trailer in the New Year!

“Skookum” plot: Deep in the Louisiana swamp lives a legend. Many have seen and heard, and few have forgotten: a giant creature with glowing red eyes that locals refer to as the Creature from Caddo Lake.

When the long dormant Bigfoot monster seemingly begins a brutal reign of terror, celebrity talk show host Dr. Anna Rock must leave her high profile position to search for her younger sister Megan, a Bigfoot researcher, in the swampy wilderness of northern Louisiana. She reluctantly enlists the aid of a former boyfriend and his father, two of the world's most respected Bigfoot research scientists, a Native American shaman, and Cajun swamp guide Gator Boudreaux.

Separated from the others during the intensive search for Megan, Anna ends up alone in the swamp, with only the fading light of her cell phone to guide the way. Ultimately she must confront her own worst nightmare to find her sister and provide the key to ending the massive carnage, and face down the most dangerous creature known to man.

Short Film Review: "Out There" (2012) by Randal Plunkett

Tom H's Review:

Randal Plunkett and I spoke a couple weeks ago and I had the opportunity to watch his short film called "Out There". I immediately wanted to know if he was planning on filming a feature length film and continuing on with this story and he is definitely going to continue on and begin production in March 2013. This was a fucking awesome short film and while it is a zombie film, it brings it's own unique story telling aspect that kept me really interested. I enjoyed the way he handled the character(s) in the short and the "ending" was just the beginning basically. I wouldn't have expected it to turn out the way it did and I think you should all check the short film out once you have an opportunity. The trailer is located below.

Movie: "Locked" by Eddie Lee Henderson

Synopsis:
Locked is a psychological thriller that opens on a teenager working at a psychiatric hospital.  He learns from a troubled young patient of an mysterious lake house. Attempting to  impress his high school friends with a cool party house, he fails to mention the horrible history of the lake house. The party turns tragic when the partying teens realize they're trapped in the house.

Tragedy in Connecticut... Tribute and how to help!

On Friday I was at my cable company paying a bill when I seen on the news that some asshole went Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and killed children and teachers. I was filled with rage and couldn't believe that someone would stoop this low. All the while I know this has happened before but for some reason this felt different. The ages of these children were much younger than most if not all of the shootings that have occurred in the past. I would like to offer my prayers to the family and friends of all victims of this horrific crime. 

I realize more than ever that time with your children is extremely important because you never know how fast the time you have with them can be taken away. I wish there was something I could do to help the families and friends of the victims feel more comfort in a time where comfort will probably not come easily. I will however ask everyone of my followers to say something in the comments below to show support to all that have been going through hell in the aftermath of this tragedy. I will send all of your words to the Newtown, Connecticut community to show our support!

Tom H's Review:

This film is fucking awesome! Inner dialogue the entire time! The whole time this man is having a conversation  in his head! I loved the concept of this; I would probably lose my fucking mind too if I lived where he lived with who he lived with.. Then you find out something is really fucking wrong! It's not the fact this man is crazy...What it is I can't tell you but I can tell you it was a great twist to the film!

Zach Green did an amazing job and I am lucky to have friended him on Facebook to be able to hear more about what he plans on doing in the future! Hopefully he can make this a feature length film because it is pure genius!

Another film that stars Kane Hodder that I have found! I really love the idea behind this film! Please check out their official website to find out how you can help invest in the project as well as read more about the film. 

They have been covered by some big publications so this is just another way for them to get some exposure from fans that may not have heard of the film just yet.

Movie: THE TORMENT OF LAURIE ANN CULLOM by Mark Dossett @c_2_it

SYNOPSIS:

Set in 1988 long before cell phones and the internet were common household items. Laurie Ann Cullom who suffers from agoraphobia after being brutally attacked in a mall parking lot is now housebound. Her fear of the outside world is nothing compared to what she soon finds inside her own house.

TOM H's Thoughts:

We rarely get the old 80's slasher feel anymore; I agree that today's films are more about found footage, zombies or haunted houses. I have seen very few films that create new icons that people will remember for 15-20+ years like they do Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers. IF this film can do that, I'm sold but the only way to know is to help it get made.

Director Profile: James Cullen Bressack! @JamesCullenB

I posted on Facebook about my conversation with James Cullen Bressack and I left out some of the important details because I wanted to wait until I posted on the blog. The conversation was great and I do apologize to him that I was in the process of meeting some friends so I couldn’t really do the interview as much justice as I would have liked; however I did learn some stuff from him.

We spoke of “Hate Crime” (2012) and his first film effort “My Pure Joy” (2011) and his emergence as the Director of “The New Neighbor”  written by Brandon Sites. I realized quick that James is very humble and he loves doing what he does, I think I did wrong by mentioning that I read some not so good reviews for “Hate Crime” but he took it like a professional and explained to me that it was a move that was supposed to have that type of reaction basically. I have to agree with him; true horror/thriller lovers really will enjoy the film whereas the weak at heart would probably dismiss it due to their inability to handle anything with real SHOCK factor.

James also gave me some good advice regarding some of my own projects and I appreciate that!

I did get to know of a project he will be doing later next year and from what he says it will not be in the United States. Tune in to see what he’s next!

Movie: "The Slender Man" @slendermanfilm

SYNOPSIS:

The film tells the story of a young man recovering from a troubled past of drug abuse and a scarring prison experience brought on by years of terrifying nightmares and hallucinations about a tall faceless being called the "Slender Man" after the mysterious disappearance of his father.

Upon visiting his childhood home to take care of his ill mother while his negligent step-father leaves town on business, the man's thirst to decipher the mystery behind his father's disappearance is rekindled when he is reunited with an old broken pocket-watch that his father gave him just before vanishing.

Complications arise when he once again begins to suffer from vivid nightmares, hallucinations, and unexplainable memory loss which lead to his discovery that the Slender Man is somehow linked to his missing father.  He begins to find himself in the middle of a deep terrifying ancient puzzle, hunted by an unknown old man Hell-bent on reclaiming the pocket-watch, as well as the Slender Man himself.

TOM H'S THOUGHTS:

After looking at the website and checking out some of the videos, I really think this is a great film to support. Obviously looking at the "Found Footage" type film however we all know that most of us will watch it and some of them will surprise us. I think this film will be one of them!!

Wolf Valley Films has a unique vision to their short films, I checked them out and I thought they were great! You should really check them out and follow them as they continue to create some awesome short films to watch! The below short is my favorite from their site and I felt if they wanted they could create a pretty solid feature film out of it.

Film Festival: The Dead in Dixon Indie Horror Film Festival! @thedeadindixon

September 2013 Terror will descend upon Mid-Missouri; 2 days and 3 Nights of Madness and Music. The Dead in Dixon will feature the best in Independent Horror Films selected in 3 Rounds, Original Music played by some of the top bands around, RV and Tent Camping, Vendors, an Onsite Bar and Grill, and a chance to be in a Horror Movie Filmed DURING the Festival !!!

Tom H Productions and Katalyst Studios will be filming “The Dead In Dixon” a Feature Length Independent Horror Film over the course of the Festival. All paid entries will have a chance of being selected to appear in the film.

The Missouri Festival And RV Park is located in the heart of the Missouri Ozarks. It boasts 74 Full RV Hook Ups, over 200 Partial Hook ups and Camping for Hundreds !!! Hangout in front of the Outdoor Stage in the Football Field size Beer Garden, Grab a bite in The Americana Grill, or test your mettle in The Black Diamond Airsoft Park.

There will be  A LOT more going on and we will keep you updated as we continue making progress. We have over 10 months to do this and we already have much of the capabilities to handle a large event! Please think about donating to the event to help with securing Special Guests as well as assisting in any upgrades we may have to do without having to dip into any money we could use for prizes.

Movie: "The Casket County Massacre" by Paul Morrell

SYNOPSIS:

In 1851 two psychotic killers along with their brain damaged brother known as the Garlock Gang ride into Casket County and murder everyone in hopes of stealing all of their gold.  After not finding any gold they are doomed to search for the missing treasure in Casket County, now a ghost town. What’s worse is that they are unable to be killed by anything aside from a three barrel revolver carried by Garlock himself.

Modern day, An all-girl rock band rolls into Casket County to make a music video. Since the Garlock Gang don’t take kindly to uninvited guests you can only imagine what happens next!

My Thoughts:

Once I seen this campaign I was excited, Kane Hodder being one of my favorites of all-time along with a very awesome Tyler Manemakes this movie for me a must see!! One of the best parts about this film is that the fans are going to be involved to the point of getting some acting roles! Get killed by Tyler Mane? How fucking awesome is that?

Movie: SEE IT HERE FIRST!! "Burial at Thornhill" trailer by Jason Figgis

Jason Figgis brings you another awesome film; This film is about a happily married couple living in Dublin's sprawling suburbia - until the afternoon their daughter is abducted and murdered. Contest: Name My Indie Horror Film Festival!!

It is official! I have been offered a venue for my very first Indie Horror Film Festival for late September 2013!! At this point we are hammering out a lot of the small details and organizing just what we will need to host such an event; hopefully my followers as well as my friends will help get the word out once we have an official title for the festival as well as all the details in place. I would love to give everyone a chance to help me come up with a very awesome name for this festival. Some key points to know about the location of the festival are:

Location of the Festival will be in Dixon, Missouri- Out in the country area the venue is a local Festival grounds that can host up to five thousand people (possibly more). We will be offering camping and RV areas for people that want to stay through the weekend. We are about 20miles away from Fort Leonard Wood Military installation.

Whatever name you decide should not copy another film festival or event due to obvious reasons; I appreciate any help regarding this matter.

Movie: "Terrifier" Short and Feature Film "The 9th Circle" by @damienleone

I had the opportunity to watch Damien Leone’s “Terrifier” and I really enjoyed it! The film will take anyone’s Coulrophobia to a new fucking level!! The film is very good quality and has great makeup and special effects. What seems to be a typical clown is found out to be more than just that; something is different and that makes it even more terrifying!! While “Terrifier” is a short film, Damien is filming a feature length film that will be continuing from “Terrifier” called “The 9^th Circle” I have posted the trailer below and it also looks amazing! It looks as if "The 9th Circle" will be every bit as sadistic and fucking awesome as "Terrifier"!!

Movie: "The Hanover House" by Corey Norman

Synopsis:

Returning from his father’s funeral, Robert Foster is faced with the unimaginable; he hits a young girl with his car. In a desperate attempt to save her life, he seeks help at a nearby farmhouse. Little does Robert know that the house has been waiting for him his entire life. Once inside it’s walls, Robert must overcome his own personal demons in an attempt to save both his wife, and himself. But there’s a problem, only one may leave The Hanover House alive.

I love movies like this! Haunted houses are fucking great! And to know that they are shooting this film in an actual haunted house makes this movie even creepier. The story sounds awesome and I from what I have seen so far it looks like it will be very high quality! Please support this film!!

Movie Review: "Backslasher" by Tim Cowles; starring Eleanor James

BACKSLASHER

Tom H's Take:

"Backslasher" in today’s horror industry is rather unique in the sense that I felt I was watching a slasher flick from the 80’s.  Let’s begin with the great stuff about this movie; actress Eleanor James is sexy as hell!  To go along with that you will witness a pretty good backstory and plot. I was flat out impressed and I was interested in finding out more with every scene; the acting wasn’t great but they carried the movie enough to make it interesting. The angle this movie was going for works; you think you know who’s killing all of these people but then you find out next they are the ones being knocked off… Hat’s off to this awesome director and writer!

Now for the things I thought could have used some work; the effects were okay but some more attention to detail would have been good. I am a very detail oriented person, especially while watching movies of any sort. I like things to flow and make some sense.

I would recommend this movie to others because it has everything you want in a slasher movie! Sexy women, suspense, death and action pretty much most of the time. You obviously won’t see some things coming and it helps to be off a little because predictability is a bitch!

THE STORY

THE JUNGLE tells the story of big cat conservationist LARRY BLACK and his filmmaker brother BEN as they travel into the Indonesian jungle to document the rare and endangered Javan Leopard. As they travel deeper and deeper into the jungle they realize they are being stalked by a deadly predator.

If you ever watched “The Reef” or “Black Water” then you are in for more from an awesome writer/director! I loved both of those movies and I am really anticipating the chance to see what he does in this one. Please donate as much as you can to this film!!
