Tom H’s Blog of horror will be taking film submissions to be selected into The Dead in Dixon Indie horror Film Festival coming September of 2013!! Submission fees are just $25.00! Regardless of whether your film is selected or not to be shown during the film festival, your film will be given an excessive amount of exposure by being featured on my blog and shown to other outlets that can help spread the word!

I am a proud supporter of Independent Horror Films and with my blog I work very hard to support everyone that asks for my assistance in getting the word out! I hope to provide a setting with the Film Festival that will improve exposure to my blog and to the films that I support now and in the future!

Movie: "The Casket County Massacre" by Paul Morrell

SYNOPSIS:

In 1851 two psychotic killers along with their brain damaged brother known as the Garlock Gang ride into Casket County and murder everyone in hopes of stealing all of their gold.  After not finding any gold they are doomed to search for the missing treasure in Casket County, now a ghost town. What’s worse is that they are unable to be killed by anything aside from a three barrel revolver carried by Garlock himself.

Modern day, An all-girl rock band rolls into Casket County to make a music video. Since the Garlock Gang don’t take kindly to uninvited guests you can only imagine what happens next!

My Thoughts:

Once I seen this campaign I was excited, Kane Hodder being one of my favorites of all-time along with a very awesome Tyler Manemakes this movie for me a must see!! One of the best parts about this film is that the fans are going to be involved to the point of getting some acting roles! Get killed by Tyler Mane? How fucking awesome is that?

Contest: Name My Indie Horror Film Festival!!

It is official! I have been offered a venue for my very first Indie Horror Film Festival for late September 2013!! At this point we are hammering out a lot of the small details and organizing just what we will need to host such an event; hopefully my followers as well as my friends will help get the word out once we have an official title for the festival as well as all the details in place. I would love to give everyone a chance to help me come up with a very awesome name for this festival. Some key points to know about the location of the festival are:

Location of the Festival will be in Dixon, Missouri- Out in the country area the venue is a local Festival grounds that can host up to five thousand people (possibly more). We will be offering camping and RV areas for people that want to stay through the weekend. We are about 20miles away from Fort Leonard Wood Military installation.

Whatever name you decide should not copy another film festival or event due to obvious reasons; I appreciate any help regarding this matter.

Movie: "Terrifier" Short and Feature Film "The 9th Circle" by @damienleone

TERRIFIER SHORT FILM

I had the opportunity to watch Damien Leone’s “Terrifier” and I really enjoyed it! The film will take anyone’s Coulrophobia to a new fucking level!! The film is very good quality and has great makeup and special effects. What seems to be a typical clown is found out to be more than just that; something is different and that makes it even more terrifying!! While “Terrifier” is a short film, Damien is filming a feature length film that will be continuing from “Terrifier” called “The 9^th Circle” I have posted the trailer below and it also looks amazing! It looks as if "The 9th Circle" will be every bit as sadistic and fucking awesome as "Terrifier"!!

Movie: "The Hanover House" by Corey Norman

Synopsis:

Returning from his father’s funeral, Robert Foster is faced with the unimaginable; he hits a young girl with his car. In a desperate attempt to save her life, he seeks help at a nearby farmhouse. Little does Robert know that the house has been waiting for him his entire life. Once inside it’s walls, Robert must overcome his own personal demons in an attempt to save both his wife, and himself. But there’s a problem, only one may leave The Hanover House alive.

TOM H’s THOUGHTS:

I love movies like this! Haunted houses are fucking great! And to know that they are shooting this film in an actual haunted house makes this movie even creepier. The story sounds awesome and I from what I have seen so far it looks like it will be very high quality! Please support this film!!

Movie Review: "Backslasher" by Tim Cowles; starring Eleanor James

Tom H's Take:

"Backslasher" in today’s horror industry is rather unique in the sense that I felt I was watching a slasher flick from the 80’s.  Let’s begin with the great stuff about this movie; actress Eleanor James is sexy as hell!  To go along with that you will witness a pretty good backstory and plot. I was flat out impressed and I was interested in finding out more with every scene; the acting wasn’t great but they carried the movie enough to make it interesting. The angle this movie was going for works; you think you know who’s killing all of these people but then you find out next they are the ones being knocked off… Hat’s off to this awesome director and writer!

Now for the things I thought could have used some work; the effects were okay but some more attention to detail would have been good. I am a very detail oriented person, especially while watching movies of any sort. I like things to flow and make some sense.

I would recommend this movie to others because it has everything you want in a slasher movie! Sexy women, suspense, death and action pretty much most of the time. You obviously won’t see some things coming and it helps to be off a little because predictability is a bitch!

If you ever watched “The Reef” or “Black Water” then you are in for more from an awesome writer/director! I loved both of those movies and I am really anticipating the chance to see what he does in this one. Please donate as much as you can to this film!!

Marissa Merrill

Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Marissa Merrill; Marissa plays the character of Violet in the upcoming Christmas Horror Anthology Merry Fucking Christmas. Her character is basically the odd woman out of the group because she is so nice, however while filming Marissa said she learned more about her character and found the inner bitch. Marissa has been part of several film projects in the past, one of her most recent movies is a Zombie flick called “Dead Season”.

While I spoke to her I asked her what her goals were and if she preferred horror films to other types and she told me that she would prefer to do all types of films and feels that she is versatile. She does not aspire to be a big celebrity however if she ever reaches a high level of super stardom she would use her fame to help world endeavors such as environmental protection.

I asked her if she woke up tomorrow and the Zombie Apocalypse had occurred and she could only pick three people to have with her she chose her little sister because she is good with gardening and we all know that people that can garden will be valuable in the future due to the lack of food. She also chose her “Dead Season” Co-Star Scott Peat’s character because of her knowledge of how he was in the movie and he would already be educated about the Zombies, the third person would be Bob Dylan because we all know in a time of such chaos you will need music and a drink, and Bob Dylan will be the man who can provide such a luxury.

Movie: "Predatory Moon" @PredatoryMoon

Indiegogo Campaign for PREDATORY MOON

Ormond Beach, Florida November 2, 2012 - The Indiegogo campaign has begun to raise money to start production on the movie Predatory Moon, a werewolf movie done with all practical effects that will be the directorial debut of F/X artist Shiva Rodriguez.

Shiva Rodriguez is one of the few female directors in the male-dominated indie horror scene. These days most werewolf transformations are done with CGI but Shiva will be doing it with practical effects like the classic film "An American Werewolf In London". Predatory Moon is a unique werewolf story that takes place near the Florida Everglades. Movie Review: "Blood Was Everywhere" by @Jason_A_Torrey

My Take:

I loved this movie! It was the perfect blend of a random psychotic killer and cool storyline that keeps you guessing as to just what the fuck is going on? Why is this fucker killing everyone? The greatest part about this movie is that YOU will never know until you see it!!! The movie isn’t really what I would call scary but it does have that awesome vibe I used to get when I watched a new slasher movie growing up! I had a discussion on Twitter a little while back and we were talking about how there isn’t any true slasher films out there anymore; I think we have finally found one!!!

Jason Torrey does a fucking amazing job on this film and I would recommend this film to anyone I run across because it is that good, sure I am a horror junky so not everyone will love what I love but they should because their movie experience would be fucking improved by a 100%!!

MY TAKE: 

A truly great display of humor and completely grotesque action! Not for the over serious type of person due to it's lower budget effects but the stories are all pretty fun and interesting at the same time!! Not to spoil anything but a woman sprays mist out her ass to kill a guy!! And that was just one part of one segment if that tells you anything. Like I say every time I review a movie; if you are looking for academy award winning acting, you are not a serious horror film lover! However in this particular set of short films there were a few people who could seriously act and there were some that I think couldn't act even in a serious role! 

I personally liked the movie which is broken down into 5 different stories and the concept behind each of the stories are fucking great; The Host is great as well!! Could the movies use a little work? Yeah- but nothing I am saying is a knock on any of the guys involved because I know what they are about. I would recommend this movie to any horror lover because I feel if you truly love horror this will seriously entertain!!
