Controversy:

The filmmakers have been threatened by the town of Cohasset Massachusetts. The Cohasset School system was contacted by the Cohasset police department in regards the The Cohasset Snuff Film Facebook page. They thought the film would cause a homicide in Cohasset and wanted to shut the film down, hinting at suing the filmmakers.

In October before the film was in select Massachusetts theaters Cohasset parents tried to have the trailer pulled from YouTube and protested the film at Cohasset City hall.

Synopsis:

In 2009, the small town of Cohasset, Massachusetts was rocked with tragedy. A 17-year-old high school senior named Collin Mason murdered three classmates. All the murders were videotaped and uploaded to the Internet via bit torrent sites and for three days, the world viewed the murders of these three innocent teens. Through legal action, the parents of the victims were able to remove all footage from the Internet and the town tried to save face by pretending it never happened. Bootleg copies of this footage are still passed around and downloaded through illegal means. The impact of this video is still being felt in Cohasset today. The video has become infamous, and is now referred to as The Cohasset Snuff Film.

Movie Review: "Coyote" by Trevor Juenger and Starring Bill Oberst Jr.

I played “Coyote” at my film festival “The Dead in Dixon” on September 27^th 2013 and I have been really booked up before that and since; trying to put out all the films in order of receiving them.  I had the pleasure of meeting Trevor Juenger and he’s a really cool guy! The audience did tell me they loved his film and it was great to hear! I had the chance to read up on “Coyote” and that is what made me decide to review it and screen it at “The Dead in Dixon”! I see how some small minded people would ban it or stop it in the middle of it being screened however I am not one of those people that feel I have the right to tell others what they can or can’t handle.. I wanted everyone to have a chance to make up their own mind.

I loved this film and the whole concept was interesting! The man simply goes crazy due to what is perceived to be because his lack of sleep causing raging paranoia! I know how I feel when I don’t get enough sleep and I know I can be a real asshole so I can only imagine how not sleeping for an excessive amount of time can do to an individual! The film captures this without flaw and I was fucking impressed with it from start to finish! Bill Oberst Jr. delivers another fucking awesome performance! This film pushes the limits of what is acceptable for public viewing and should not be taken lightly! There are scenes in this film that made me truly cringe and I have NEVER done that watching any other film! I will tell everyone to watch with caution and an open mind and you will not be disappointed at all!!

FILM SYNOPSIS

It’s Halloween day in 1989 and college student Jackie Blue wants nothing more than to escape the raucous festivities of the holiday and simply enjoy a quiet birthday. Her friend Amber has other ideas and persuades her to come to the annual Halloween party on campus after her shift at the local movie theater. 

It soon becomes apparent as the night unfolds that Jackie will get more excitement than she bargained for on her birthday this year. The murder that plays out on the silver screen becomes an ominous parallel to reality, as Jackie falls under a strange spell while everyone around her is turning up dead. 

All the while, a mysterious stranger watches over Jackie’s every move as she succumbs to hallucinations and loses her grip on what is real. Jackie soon finds herself helplessly trapped like prey in a spider’s web, and all she can do is try to survive the night!

Plot Outline

Cousins Anthony and Frank have grown up in the streets learning to trust only each other. In and out of Juvenal detention and as they got older they learned to work the system. Getting into everything from boosting cars and stolen merchandise, the cousins slowly made a name for themselves. Then, with a chance meeting with a crooked undercover cop, the cousins are introduced to the sex trade underworld.

Escorts and Strippers become their business, and that catches the attention of the Russian mob. They offer the cousins a deal to buy into the business, and that’s when things start to go bad for the cousins. As their grip to their business starts to give way the cousins are forced into a confrontation that neither are prepared for.

I am a big fan of Jimmy Dempster and regardless of this not being a Horror Film; I support the actors/actresses and filmmakers that I have had the pleasure of having contact with over the past couple of years. I will support them always! Please enjoy the trailer!! - Tom H.

MY REVIEW

This film was simply amazing! I have reviewed and watched many short films and this is just as good as any of the best films I have had the pleasure of watching. This is a film that tells a great story and delivers perfectly; Michael Sharpe did fucking awesome behind the camera as well as in front of the camera! I could see him turning this into a feature someday and expanding on the story! Everyone needs to check out this short masterpiece as well as any past or upcoming films that Michael Sharpe has done or does in the future! I will definitely keep my eye open for anything he would like me to write about!

 TOM H’S THOUGHTS:

I found this webseries as I was searching google+; a guy had posted a link to this series. I checked it out and after the first episode I was hooked! This is a very cool, somewhat comedic and unique! The funny part about this is that I just wrote a review mentioning how we haven’t had a good show that told horrific tales like Tales from The Crypt! With each individual story there comes more and more awesomeness! I seriously loved what I have had the opportunity to see so far and I will continue to watch the series. I will also look into interviewing some of the cast and the creators of the series as I continue to watch. This is one of those projects I feel should be shared with all lovers of Horror! Movie Review: "Night of the Seamonkey: A Disturbing Tale" by Michael S. Rodriguez

Plot Outline

Young Toby is about to learn a big lesson about responsibility when he sends off for a mail order sea pet...Little does he know terror waits in his mailbox weeks later. As Toby's dream of nurturing a pet is crumbled when its egg fails to hatch, it is then washed down the sink by his mother. Weeks pass and the egg now lodged in the family's sewage drain begin to grow and mutate. We soon find out that this is no ordinary sea pet, but a hostile foreign threat's prototype for a new form of warfare. The creature returns through the family's sink now bigger meaner and thirsty for blood...Will Toby and his family make it through the night?

MY REVIEW

I laughed my ass off a lot while watching this film! So at first I wasn’t sure what I was getting into; this film is completely different from most that I have had a chance to see recently and I actually loved that part! This is a Horror/Comedy that simply does not disappoint at all! Icon Lynn Lowryreally made this film! She brought the mix of seriousness yet comedic side of this film! The fact that the kid wasn’t even acting remotely as afraid as his own father was hilarious!

The creature (Seamonkey) you did not see a whole lot of until toward the end and the build up for that was really good; I was impressed with the effects and the way the film really went out of its way to not be so serious! I could see this film being part of what used to be “Friday the 13^th: The Series” or “Monster Vision”.. We just don’t have good shows like that on television anymore so maybe one day we will be able to have a show like that to showcase short films like this! Please give this film a look!

Movie Review: "Don't Go To The Reunion" by Kevin Sommerfield

Plot Outline

Scott Rantzen (Brady Simenson) is a horror movie loving misfit who is teased by the popular students in school. When a date with the very popular and very beautiful Erica Carpenter (Stephanie Leigh Rose) backfires, he feels as though his life is ruined. Ten years later, the gang reunites for their class reunion. Little do they know that someone is waiting for them and ready to see that they pay for what they did. Is Scott back for revenge and will the old gang survive to tell the tale? It'll be more gore for Class of 04.

MY REVIEW

Tonight I was sent an online screener of “Don’t Go to the Reunion” by Kevin Sommerfield; The good points would be the film was done very well with okay acting and really good effects. When I look at Indie films I look deeper into the film’s quality and the ability to pull off a great film on a small budget at the same level as the larger budget films you see going national. Kevin Sommerfield does just that! He put together an awesome film that kept me glued the entire time! I do understand that this storyline is not an original one; in fact the killers mimicking other horror films to kill people has been done and so has the whole revenge plot. I honestly felt I was watching a slasher from the 80's! The feeling I had was truly fucking amazing! What's that word? Nostalgic?

Regardless of the plot being less than original; the film was great and I love seeing Indie Horror Film makers succeed in making quality films that really show off their skills! This film showed me that Slasher Studios has a great ability to pull off some awesome horror films and I can’t wait to see more from them in the future!

"Crypt" by Mark Murphy

It’s Saturday night and two partying teens, looking for a little excitement, take their dates down to the crypt of a 15th century Convent. With video camera in hand, the boys are out to show the girls a good time, and create their own YouTube sensation. Things go wrong from the start as the teens find themselves trapped in the catacombs of the convent. The tombs have their own history, and the teens are faced with the demons that rule the underworld.

The next day, the teen’s dead bodies are found, and a police  investigation begins. Left behind, and discovered by church officials, is the video recorder which is the evidence that sets into motion a clandestine effort by the clergy to conceal what actually happened.

Called into service is a special member of the church. Brought in  from Rome, his job is to rid the convent of its demons by performing an exorcism. Things get even scarier when the “specialist” himself becomes possessed. The demons now appear unstoppable.

The Crypt is an homage to the 70’s box office phenomenon, The Exorcist. It’s a modern retelling of the classic tale for today’s youth that includes all the elements of social media, and is available in 3D for a fun-filled night of scary entertainment.

"Petrified" by Lance Camp/Eric Jonathan/Matthew Ellison

A modern-day copycat serial killer has picked up the torch where the last killer left it- deep in the woods, under the lofty branches of an old Oak Tree. 

After the killings at Oak Hammock Park, city officials tried to cut the tree down but to no avail. The chainsaws stopped working, a band saw broke its teeth and even an axe man’s blade could not be wielded to disturb the Spirit of the Tree. The city decided to make the Tree and its surrounding area into a protected park, Oak Hammock, as an eerie sort of homage to the offense that happened there.

In the 1990's there were several verified reports of satanic worshiping at the site and a documented Exorcism was performed by a flock of local priests; they even hung a cross on the tree, which was befouled with further animal sacrifices. Reports of hooded, cloaked men chasing little boys surfaced and in 1993 a jilted man committed suicide under the tree.

Legend has it that the whole area is haunted and reports of screaming female voices are said to be heard in the women's restroom. Locals talk of cold patches lingering on the trails in the dead heat of the summer and a strange lack of animals residing in the vicinity thereof.

The Legend of the Devil's Tree persists to this day and is listed on Weird Florida as a place to visit only with a reverence for the restless spirits that dwell therein.

DO NOT attempt to go to this sacred place at night or desecrate the "Oaken Bones" that lie under "Earthen Stones" for if you do a curse will befall your family forever!
