I had a great night of reviewing films on Tuesday! I had the chance to review both “Midsummer Nightmares” and “Midsummer Nightmares 2: Summer’s End”, Directed by Ryan Stacy! To begin I will say that Part 1 was an instant hit with me with the very first death scene! It was done fucking perfectly! This film gave me a “Scream” type vibe and an ending that did not disappoint because I honestly did not know or see it coming as to who the killer is…  Ryan Stacy brought a slasher worth watching! There is a lot of knife play which makes for several identical deaths but that is not something that should deter you from this film in any way! The fact that this film is an ode to slasher films of 20-30 years ago in its style; it makes me a little nostalgic! This is a must see for anyone who loves slasher films as well as anyone that loves to see indie horror filmmakers at their best! When Part One ended I immediately went to “Midsummer Nightmares 2: Summer’s End” and started it!

“Midsummer Nightmares 2: Summer’s End” Starts of telling what happened at the end of “Midsummer Nightmares” then picks up about 3 years after the events that had occurred! You could tell immediately the quality improved with this film! Ryan Stacy continued to show just why I loved the first film so much by not playing around and making us believe that there was another killer; instead we find out who the killer is right off the bat pretty much! And people DIE! DIE! DIE! The atmosphere changed a lot knowing the killer but it did not take anything away from this fucking awesome film! At the end there is yet again another surprise like the first one that I did not see coming completely! I mean come on Audrey Small (Christy Faulkner) was a bitch to a lot of people; who did not want to kick her ass at one point? Great film that deserves some major fucking props! The ONLY negative thing that I can say is that I am a little OCD when different people play an important lead role. It's like having Nev Campbell be Sydney in the first "Scream" only to be replaced by Amy Smart in "Scream 2". AHHHH that is all I have to say about that particular thing.. Forgive me! I couldn't help myself!

Movie: "Almost Human" by Joe Begos

I was asked if I called Horror/Sci-fi films genre pictures…. I suppose if one would ask that question they haven’t seen too many horror films to begin with or they don’t look at films the same as others… Horror/Sci-Fi films would be “Alien” or “The Thing”…. That’s the best way I can explain what Horror/Sci-Fi is.

Now I am finally posting what I think is my first actual Horror/Sci-Fi film on the blog; “Almost Human” by Joe Begos.

Plot Outline:

Two years ago, Mark disappeared from his home in a brilliant flash of light. His friend Seth was the last person to see him alive. Now, a string of murders leads Seth to believe that Mark is back.

Randy Fabert has moved on from “Psycho Killer” to “Autumn Moon” and from what I have had the chance to see on the official “Autumn Moon” Facebook page it has me really excited! A couple of days ago they released the Werewolf that will be in the film and it looks fucking amazing! Randy R. Fabert is truly gifted in the ways of monsters! I have a few images of the terrifying beast below! And as their Facebook also says; coming soon is the first 7 to 10 minutes of the film! So stay tuned in for that!

Movie Review: "Spirit in the Woods" by Anthony Daniel

I’ve been waiting for this film to review for quite some time now and I have finally had the chance to do so! Based on a local legend that goes along the lines of once you enter the woods you don’t come out; A group of college students go to the woods to do a project. Once they arrive they discuss the legend, while one of the girls involved has a brain and says they shouldn’t go in; nobody listens and they go anyway. STUPID IDEA!

Now; without giving up too much about the film I will go with my thoughts; I was interested to see just what was going on and how Anthony Daniel would make this unique. That was a major reason I was glued to the film; not only that I had to see which of the cast was going to die. Yes; I wanted some to die more than others but I will keep that information to myself. The film does have a slow start in ways but more than anything character development was being laid down and nobody will really know what comes next. I was surprised with the climax and I enjoyed the fact that he kept me off balance. Those of you that have talked to me knows that is pretty hard to do! I think "Spirit in the Woods" can be "The Blair Witch Project" on steroids!

I personally think that the acting was done pretty well considering the lines were delivered to the cast as the scenes were unfolding instead of them having an actual script to read or rehearse. Those that are not found footage fans will probably not be too interested however I feel that supporting Anthony Daniel and his cast is the most important part. Give it a chance! Anthony says he is not done and he plans on bringing a “Spirit in the Woods 2” coming soon so keep that in mind as well!

Short Films: "Contact" by Jeremiah Kipp

I watched 3 short films from Jeremiah Kipp… with very little dialogue you can still make a powerful film! What Jeremiah Kipp captures in these films is amazing and I could not have asked for more! Each film has the perfect blend of “Horror” and “Drama” mixed with great acting and a flowing story that was easy to follow. These films kept me really intrigued; after the first I was not going to stop until I seen the other 2! My schedule gets crazy and typically I watch 1 at a time; not in this case! Jeremiah is very talented and I can’t wait to see what he does next!

Movie: "Kill Everyone" by Richard Tobin Jr.

I ran across a pretty cool original idea for a film and I feel I have to share it because it will allow fans to interact with the cast to help create future storylines! Here is a quote from the website:

“Kill Everyone delivers much more than a movie with an elaborate multi-platform network of websites and other entertainment outlets. Since the film centers on a fictional social networking site, we are creating a fully functional social networking site which will be the hub to all “More than and Movie” content.

I will be following the development of this film to keep everyone up to date on when it will begin; I am really excited to see an actual interactive slasher film that allows the fans to help create what happens next. It is almost like allowing the fans to “Vote” for who dies etc… well I hope they allow the fans to kill off people…

"Truth or Dare" Wins at Shockfest!

Jessica Cameron’s New Horror Film Takes Home 4 More Awards

Jessica Cameron’s directorial debut, Truth or Dare won 4 awards at Shockfest Film Festival on Saturday, January 11th. The vicious torture flick had 9 nominations and Cameron herself won Best Director and Best Actress. Co-star Devanny Pinn won Best Supporting Actress, a.k.a “Sexiest Shockfest Sweetheart” and Ryan Kiser’s chilling portrayal of “Derik B. Smith” earned him a Best Actor award.

The Truth or Dare screening attracted many a-listers in the indie horror scene including Big-Ass Spider director Mike Mendez, ColdWater director/writer Dave Parker, Isle of Dogs director Tammi Sutton, and Charles de Lauzirika who produced Blade Runner Final Cut and directed Crave.

Cameron, who is very active on social media, decided to record her Best Director acceptance speech in a POV style at the request of her Twitter followers. The result can be seen below:

Truth or Dare, which Cameron co-wrote and produced with Jonathan Higgins, has now won 13 awards, 3 of which are for “Best Feature.” It can next be seen at the Macabre Faire Film Festival in Long Island, NY on Sunday, January 19th at 5:40pm. Anyone in or around Kansas City, MO will be able to catch Truth or Dare at Panic Film Fest on February 1st at 9:45pm. Truth or Darewill also be screened at two conventions which Cameron will be attending. The Twisted Terror Convention in Sacramento, CA Mar. 29th - 30th and the Marble City Comic Con in Knoxville, TN on April 11th - 13th. Exact screening times and dates are TBD.

When asked about the 4 wins at Shockfest, Cameron responded with:

“I am so honored that ‘Truth or Dare’ screened at my favorite LA horror film festival, Shockfest. To win Best Actor and Best Director in my directorial debut is more than I could have ever hoped. I’m so excited to see my fellow actors, Ryan Kiser and Devanny Pinn win awards for my film since they worked so hard and gave dynamic performances.”

The plot of the film revolves around 6 friends who find internet stardom when they make “truth or dare” videos online. It is all fun and games until their number one fan decides he wants to play. Nothing is what it seems, and everyone has something to hide…

**SPOILER ALERT!** So there I was watching this film; I mean glued to it because I am seriously trying to do a good review and because I was very interested in the film! I realized that SANTA EMPLOYS A FUCKING EVIL MONSTER FUCKER TO SNATCH UP BAD KIDS!!! I mean; don’t get me wrong, I have seen and heard about Krampus before this film. I just thought this film had a new spin on things because I don’t really remember hearing about Santa being in cahoots with Krampus..

The acting was okay.. The effects were pretty good but I was more concerned with where the story was going. I thought at first that guy escaping years before was the reason that Krampus was around but then I quickly realized that it was the kid of the guy who got away that Krampus was after because she was a seriously demented child!. This film is going to be one that I watch the month leading up to Christmas.. Right alongside of “Silent Night” and “Black Christmas”.. Hell why don’t we throw in “The Grinch” just to balance things out! Loved the story; not a big fan of the acting and who doesn’t love when Bill Oberst Jr. is in the mix? Great job! Great Film! Jason Hull you’re awesome!
